The Petra Proposal

We have received a defensive plan from the other nation proposing that their government take over the responsibility of protecting our possessions in the Levant. their leader argues that the other nation's geographic proximity makes defending and administrating these territories a simple matter, and that surrendering these territories to the other nation would free up our own resources to be redirected elsewhere. The proposition is not without merit, but it does put us in an... interesting position. We seized Palestine, Jordan, and the Sinai off the defeated Ottoman Empire: are we prepared to give it back to their successors of the Ottoman Empire? Historical considerations put aside, we should also consider how their government might react if we deny them. They might interpret our rejection as a sign that we do not trust them, or that we do not value their place in this alliance. The other nation has proven unpredictable in the past, and unfortunately we cannot take it on faith that their authorities will not escalate this matter if we deny them.
