What happens
In response to vehement French opposition to the return of Wilhelm II as Kaiser, the German government has proposed a compromise wherein Wilhelm II will continue to live in exile, but his son will assume the German throne as Wilhelm III. Having been accepted by France, it is hoped this will lead to enduring peace between the great continental European powers.
