What happens
We have received reports that the New Fourth Army suffered almost complete annihilation after it was surrounded by nationalist forces, while conducting a retreat that our command had not wanted to join. The accounts of how the fighting started are vague, but what might have started as a friendly fire incident soon turned into a bloodbath once both sides suspected they were under deliberate attack.
