Lampião Killed in Shootout

During our most recent law enforcement operation in North East Brazil, Lampião, the most famous of the Cangaço, was killed in a shootout with the police. A member of Lampião’s group of bandits betrayed him, which allowed the police to ambush the group at their hideout. While many smaller groups of bandits continue to roam the countryside, this would appear to mark the end of large-scale operations by the Cangaço.
