Aware of their precarious supply situation and lack of reinforcements, Vichy and allied forces have conducted a long-running series of maneuvers and couner-maneuvers to try and bait each other into committing to a decisive battle on unfavorable terms. With men and material worn out, and no decision in sight, both sides have dug in and are awaiting the other's first move.
