About this idea
Although renegotiated in 1930, the Anglo-Iraqi treaty remains a one sided agreement that leaves Iraq a de facto client state of the British Empire. The treaty gives preferential resource rights to Iraq’s oil to the British and allows them to utilize military facilities across the country. This continues to cause massive dissent among the Iraqi people who yearn for real independence. Any government that comes to power will have to decide whether to renegotiate the treaty again, or tear it up and risk the wrath of the British military.
