The Netherlands is the gateway of trade into Europe, a fact that is well understood by our trade partners. Though, while our position gives us strength, it also puts us in an unenviable predicament: while the British aim to blockade their likely enemies on the continent, the Germans wish for us to increase the flow of trade to their country through ours, using us as a back door to avoid the blockade.
