What happens
Rather than the expected show trial and subsequent execution, the Communists have instead signalled that they would prefer a formal alliance against the Japanese. They are clearly stalling for time, knowing that another good push would see them wiped out. If they actually wanted the Chinese leader dead, he would already have been executed. However, some people in our government wonder why the Communists would push for an alliance now - perhaps they know something we don't?
