What happens
Lev Trotsky, once the top lieutenant and heir presumptive of Vladimir Ilich Lenin, was attacked today in his home by an armed group who carried out a raid on his villa. The assailants burst into the room where the Bolshevik was, immediately opening fire before hastily disappearing. They left behind a mortally wounded Trotsky, who died a few hours later in a hospital in Mexico City. After a failed power struggle with and his allies for control of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Trotsky spent the thirties in exile, living in Turkey, France and Norway before finally settling in Mexico. He remained a constant critic of Stalin and the 'degenerated 'workers' state' of the Soviet Union.
